Planning ahead-- A nineteen year old!!

 A teenage Missionary reaches out

Luke 8

King James Version (KJV)
And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,

I was attending a party at my granddaughter Sarah's house recently, with a group of ladies I had never met.  As I stood in the crowd by the kitchen snack bar counter I looked around and noticed a younger lady sitting on the couch by herself.  We smiled, then I went back to the conversation at the counter.

A few minutes passed and I felt a presence beside me.  Turning, I realized the young lady had moved into the kitchen beside me.  She quickly introduced herself and we began to talk.  I asked Ashley what she does and she said, "I am a missionary".  I looked at her thinking, "you are only a teenager, how can you possibly be a missionary already."

As she spoke, I realized she is very mature for nineteen, and LOVES THE LORD!  She began to tell me she had recently spent three months in China helping establish a mission spot and hopes to be able to reach out to others wherever God leads her.

Her tshirt proclaimed she is a follower of Christ with a group called "TeamXtreme"..... www.teamxtremeintl.com . She is with a music team that travels nationally and internationally whenever possible.  Ashley was excited to find someone who understands what she is doing with her life.  When she discovered (my big cross necklace may have given her a clue)  that I am a Christian vocalist as well as a songwriter she shared with me that God is guiding her to write songs.  She has two thus far  and is working toward writing eight more to create a CD.  She hopes to be able to sell enough to help out with her expenses.

She asked for my email address and website so we can keep in touch.  I suggested she start a blog so she can share her experiences with others as she travels.  I am sure she is in for some exciting times of seeing people come to Christ and  perhaps some spectacular healings and other miracles.

Keep checking back and I will share her Blog when she gets it up and running.

Sing to the Lord

Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things  Isaiah  12:5

Being a singer myself I am very excited when I meet someone who shares my first love!  Last night I was attending a party at my granddaughters home and a young lady came over and introduced herself to me.  As we began talking I discovered she is a 19 year old missionary, She has been to China on a three month misson trip and is now traveling with a group of Christian singers cross-country and hopefully world-wide sharing Jesus through song.

Ashley was excited to share that God has allowed her to write two songs thus far and she plans to increase that to enough to create a CD to help finance her life working for God.  When I told her that I have also written Christian songs she was thrilled to be sharing her story with someone who could understand what she is doing!

Of course, as we all know, missionaries have to earn the necessarily funds to finance their travel  or make contact with people who are willing to sponsor them in their work for God.  She is expecting the sale of her CD to provide needed funds.

Ashley wanted to hear my music so I directed her to our website: www.bettyoverstreet.com and also : www.reverbnation.com where most of my songs are available as audio and some videos.

I suggested that she begin a blog so that she would be able to "take us along" on her travels.  She will be considering that .

Have to run now, maybe it is time to write a new song.......Have a wonderful day!

Every day is a new adventure, with God guiding the way.  We were up at our little cabin at Magalia for a few days and it seemed something new was happening each day!

We had a week totally full of music, from Singing at a Senior Care Residence in Chico and meeting new friends (this was our first time to perform there) who wanted to know when we would be back--to returning for a second performance at Atria Oak knoll (also a Senior residence) in Paradise and seeing folks we sang for a few months ago.

Then Sunday morning I sang one of my original songs during the morning service at 1st Christian Church (our home church) and visited all our friends there who we only see about once or twice each month.  What a wonderful membership and as always, the service was very good.

Next, we got to listen to others singing, what a treat!  At Alliance Church in Paradise we were treated to a concert;  guitarist, Jason and wife Sarah shared their testimonies as well as music and they are also inviting people to join them in "World vision" by sponsoring a child in a foreign country.   We declined as we are already sponsoring a child through Compassion International.

Then we went to First Assembly of God for a concert by two Southern Gospel trios: Solid Ground and Reliance, both exceptional and such men of God!

Oh yes, we also had a dog try to adopt us but he was just around the house a couple of days and then moved on.  He was awfully cute!

Another day in the life of The Overstreets!

Please join us on our music Facebook Page.  We are hoping to reach 100 "LIKES" by the end of April.  200 would really be great!

A book I never read! Until today...

How often do we pass by a book in the Bible, say, "Gee, I have never read that book before" and continue on to the particular scripture we are searching for?

It seems as I was growing up we were always being told the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah and his ark, Jonah and his whale.....and there were so many stories, books and situations that were never touched on.

As a young adult I took my children to church and Sunday school, we attended Morning worship and still there were so many parts of the Bible never studied or mentioned.

Now, as I turn the pages, looking for a particular chapter or verse, I realize there are still many books I have never read so this morning as I turned toward the New Testament I stopped when my fingers reached Malachi and said, "I wonder who he was.  I think it is time to read about him."

The Book of Malachi is a challenge to take God seriously, not just in giving but in every aspect of life. (The Inspirational Study Bible by Max Lucado -- introduction to this book.)

This book seems to cover it all as Malachi is confronted by The Lord.  He speak to Malachi of all the situations in which Israel is not honoring Him.

He speaks of Polluted offerings as the Priests and  people offer lambs that are lame, blind and sick instead of the best of the flock. God does not want the offerings that are blemished.  He wants us to love Him enough to offer our best!

HE speaks of the sanctity of marriage and how the people were marrying outside of their faith.  He seeks Holy offspring (Malachi 3:15). If we marry outside our faith of God the children will probably not be raised to worship God.

He speaks of tithes and how we must not rob him.  "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this" says the Lord of Hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven an pour out for you such blessings that there will not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10

I can not wait to turn back to enjoy reading more of the stories that are brand new to me!  Perhaps God will guide me to a verse that He wants me to write a song about!

If you would like to hear my most recent song that God gave me to write please check it out on my www.Reverbnation.com/bettyoverstreet  page.   HE WALKED TO CALVARY
